The devices, browsers, connections and assistive technologies CAQA Online portals are designed to support.
This page describes the devices, browsers, connections and settings that CAQA Online, part of CAQA Groups and operated by Career Calling International Pty Ltd (ABN 53 162 651 238), designs its portals and this website to support. CAQA Online provides online portals, account access and digital environments for learners, trainers, providers and support teams, and most of those users are on ordinary school, workplace or home equipment, so our baseline is deliberately modest. This website is an information and enquiry site and takes no payments; the requirements below apply equally to it and to the portal environments we host. If your organisation manages devices centrally, share this page with your IT team when a new portal is rolled out.
We support the current and immediately previous major versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari, on desktop and mobile. Older browsers, and Internet Explorer in particular, are not supported. Keeping your browser up to date is also the single best security step you can take as a portal user.
Portals are responsive and work on Windows and macOS desktops and laptops, iPads and Android tablets, and recent iOS and Android phones. Marking, reporting and administrative work is most comfortable on a screen of 13 inches or larger; learners can complete most day-to-day tasks, such as checking timetables, reading feedback, submitting work and messaging, happily on a phone. Chromebooks that receive current browser updates are also suitable for learner use.
A standard broadband or 4G/5G mobile connection is sufficient for everyday portal use. Streaming video learning content is smoothest at around 5 Mbps or better. On very slow or intermittent connections the portals will still load, but large file uploads, such as video assessment evidence, may need patience or a better connection. As a guide, a household connection that comfortably handles video conferencing is more than enough for portal work.
Portals require JavaScript to be enabled and cookies to be allowed for the portal domain; both are default settings in all supported browsers. If your organisation filters the internet, its IT team may need to allow the portal domain and permit file downloads. To make sure portal notifications reach you, add the sending address your provider nominates to your email safe-senders list. Portals do not require any software installation, browser plug-ins or administrator rights on your device; everything runs in the browser.
Some learning content includes audio and video, so speakers or headphones are recommended. Uploaded documents are generally provided in common formats such as PDF and standard office file types; a free PDF reader covers most needs. Webcams and microphones are only required where a provider uses live or recorded video features. Providers are encouraged to supply captions or transcripts with video content, and our portal templates support both.
This website and our portal templates are designed to work with screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, zoom up to 200 per cent and reduced-motion preferences. Details of our accessibility commitments, known limitations and how to request content in alternative formats are set out in our Accessibility Statement.
We do not test against discontinued operating systems, browsers more than two major versions old, or heavily modified corporate builds that block scripts and cookies. If you must use such an environment, contact your provider's administrator to discuss options.
If the portals are not behaving as expected on equipment that meets these requirements, contact your provider's administrator first, as they can see your environment's configuration, or reach the CAQA Online team at info@caqa.com.au, on 1800 266 160, or through our contact page.
